Abstract
Forough Farrokhzad's poetry is generally closer to the school of Romanticism; however, in the romantic atmosphere of her poetry, many symbolic words are also employed. Various symbols are used in her poems. Forough frequently employs the image of the sky and words related to celestial phenomena. The star, the sun, the moon, the sky and other related names find a symbolic significance in addition to their literal meanings in the second phase of her poetic career. This paper tries to analyze such symbols in Forough's poetry. The results of the study show that these symbolic words, apart from their role in creating poetic imagery and atmosphere, are employed when Forough aims to discuss her sociopolitical hopes and concerns regarding the fate of humankind. She specifically uses words related to the sky when she wants to express her wishes, dreams, and hopes, especially her hope for life, love, and happiness. All in all, it can be argued that using these symbolic words provides a positive connotation and demonstrates the bright side of life in her poetry.
