Abstract
Shafii Kadkani is one of the contemporary poets who while committed himself to tradition, the influence of the precious heritage of Persian literature and rich cultural background in his poetry, was always in favor of innovation and new experimentations. He is both under the influence of the tradition of Persian literature and contemporary poetic movements in Iran and the world around. His judgment and standard of art are artistic, thoughtful and semantic merits and any poetic approach which was in agreement with this rubric (logic) was welcomed. Of those schools and new poetic approaches whose artistic merits attracted his attention and were favored by him were imagism and concrete poetry. In his collection of poetry, there are excellent examples of his poems which are based on both of these two styles and in accordance with principles and standards of these two schools and approaches. Up until now, there has not been any research in imagist and concrete poetry. Since part of his poetry is artistically and emotionally highly rich, the poet through objective and tangible images (pictures), portrayed passing moments and eternalized them. Such imagist poems, which are often non-ideological and solely aesthetic, deserve attention and meticulous view of the reader for artistic ecstasy. Furthermore, in few cases Shafii artistically and skillfully took advantage of written style to suggest and transfer subject, theme and meaning. In so doing, he has created a unique harmony between the meaning and written style, giving his poetry an aesthetic quality. The present research strives to explore and examine such examples and through a descriptive-analytic method study the poet’s imagist and concrete poetry.
