Abstract

Social Symbolism is one of the important literary schools that was formed in the 19th century and was able to interpret political and social realities as much as possible through personal symbols and signs and prioritize commitment, political issues and social mission over everything else in their works. . In the 20th century, after the changes in the intellectual and formal structures of poetry by Nima, social symbolism was able to emerge in the context of contemporary poetry as a source of problems and sufferings of the nation. Now, if this platform can be tied to the concept of "power" based on Michel Foucault's theory, this serious question arises that how do the poets of social symbolism explain and draw the concept and idea of power in front of the oppression and suffocation of society for the nation? In this research, using the descriptive-analytical method, a selection of the poems of social symbolism poets is extracted by relying on the poems of Nima and Shamlu, and taking into account the concept of Foucaultian power, it is shown that these poets, in front of the oppression, force and tyranny of the society , gaining awareness and new ideas on the one hand, and uprising and resistance on the other hand, are introduced as tools and techniques to show themselves as subjects and sources of power so that they can take steps towards gaining freedom and liberation against the authority of the ruling system.
